1951 refugees in Karbi Anglong resettlements and restoring six schedule status underf Indian constitution and 200 crore for development project in karbi Anglon
BJP Member of parliament Amor Singh Tisso who is senior and experienced with land encroachment issues like Difu judicial court campus case , since earlier 2014 , in Karbi Anglong , Assam , informs to Delhi voice news portal ( delhvoicenewsagency.com) on recent VGR and PGR lands eviction protest , government’s eviction process , correct implementation of six schedule land right of Indian constitution for protection of tribal community and also parallelly resettlement and rehabilitation of non Karbi who migrated before 1951 in karbi anglong and it’s karbi ST people , saying that law is guided by constitution, recent eviction from Professionals Grazing Reserves (PGR) and Village Grazing Reserves (VGR) land issue is under judicial process ,so protesters should not ignored it. The MP Tisso said that Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has immediately initiated to issue an order through district administration for eviction of illegal encroachers , actions against illegal immigrants and parallelly or simultaneously aims to arrange rehabilitation and resettlement in Karbi Anglong (not VGR and PGR lands ) for those who are residing since 1950 in karbi anglong whether they are belong to ST or non ST or other religions etc. protecting Tribal’s land rights under the Six Schedule of Indian constitution. After December 2025 meeting between the KAAC , the Assam Government , protesters aimed to compromise the land disputes . East district Karbi Anglong BJP President Roland Killing said to DVNA news that as the eviction issue was under high court and supreme court , protesters should not ignore it ,and now ASDC and Assam Govt. both has initiated swift or rapid action for eviction and to restore and full fledged implement of six schedule . Massive protest have erupted in this district ,led by the karbi Students Association (KSA) ASDC Youth Front, and other indigenous groups demanding immediate eviction of illegal settlers from VGR and PGR lands and also the protection of tribal land rights under the sixth schedule d of Indian constitution .
Delhi voice news observes that after December 2025 meeting between of ASDC and Assam Govt . protesters any way aimed to compromised the issue temporarily .
As of late 2025, approximately 29 lakh bighas ( over 9.5 lakh acres )of land, including VGR and PGR , were reported to be under such encroachment in karbi anglong . Dvna news observes that as Assam government and KAAC rulling Govt. have been planning land under ASDC free from encroachers for economic development projects , resettlements , rehabilitation of it’s landless ST and non ST people since long 1950 , strengthening SIX SCHEDULE right for ST cast under Indian constitution for land right, protecting culture, language , religious activities of tribel people in Karbi Anglong.
According to sources , 1951 cut off date is central to current disputes over land and illegal immigration in Karbi Anglong Assam after formation of the united Mikir and North Cachar hills district in 1951 and many migrants arrived in 1950 due to communal violence in East Pakistan and also Nepali people used to came .
The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Assam , Chief Executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang, announced a major eviction drive against illegal encroachment on PGR and PGR lands under ASDC, last year late 2025 cancelling illegal trade licences issuing eviction notice to
its encroachers with 330 families for clear or vacate the land occupied by them , temporarily spared due to Gauhati High Court stay order. Refugee influx and Resettlement (post 1950) Resettlements of refugees in Karbi Anglong dating 1951 is a long standing complex issue on rehabilitation of refugees and subsequent demographic changes. Following 1950 communal riots and partition . many Hindu Bengali were settled in various part of Assam including hilly areas . During 1960 , Assam government settles many Garo and Bengali refugees settled in karbi Anglong such as Rongkhang reserve Rongkut under Howeraghat constituency .
Demographic changes(1951-1971) Many Nepali in Karbi Anglong was around 1 lakh and increased to 3.59 lakh in 1971. The Hindu population increased from 67.40 % in 1951 to 81.64% in 1961. Post -1951 Cut-off and recent development in brief - Indigenous organizations in Karbi Anglong often seen demanding Cut-off year as 1951 for citizenship in the district .ASDC administration also has accepted 1950 as Cut-off year .launching eviction in land including VGR and PGR land. Recently ASDC administration on February 7, 2026 ,has recently initiated to expel individuals declaring as a foreign nationals by the foreigners’ tribunal issuing expulsion order of three individuals as illegal immigrants under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam)Act , 1950 and recently Tuliram Ronghang . CEM , KAAC accepted 200 crore funds from central BJP government for industrial infrastructure and economic development projects in Karbi Anglong .
