DVNA NEWS (Delhi Voice News Agency) reports on anti-erosion and town-protection measures undertaken by the Assam Water Resources Department to safeguard Goalpara town and neighbouring areas from the threat of bank erosion and flooding caused by the Brahmaputra River and its local tributaries.

The Assam Water Resources Department initiated anti-erosion and town-protection schemes in Goalpara in 2022, with the objective of protecting vulnerable riverbank areas and important parts of Goalpara town from the damaging effects of erosion and floods.

During 2024–25, protection and anti-erosion works were carried out through the construction and placement of geo-bag-based protective structures at vulnerable locations. These measures were aimed at strengthening riverbanks and reducing the direct impact of strong river currents, particularly during periods of high water levels and the monsoon season.
