The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp (RDC) 2026 commenced on a vibrant and ceremonial note at the DG NCC Camp, Delhi Cantonment.

This year’s camp is witnessing the participation of 2,406 cadets, including 127 cadets from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and 131 cadets from the North Eastern Region. In addition, cadets and officers from 25 friendly foreign countries are taking part under the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP), further strengthening international cooperation and cultural exchange.

Addressing the media, Lieutenant General Virendra Vats, Director General, NCC, congratulated the NCC fraternity on the successful completion of 77 years of dedicated service to the nation. Emphasising the significance of the Republic Day Camp, he stated that the camp provides cadets a unique opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage and traditions of India through national-level events held in the capital during the Republic Day celebrations.

Highlighting the growing reach of the organisation, Lt Gen Vats informed that NCC units are now present in over 90 percent of districts across the country, reflecting the organisation’s expanding footprint. He noted that the strength of NCC has increased remarkably from 20,000 cadets at the time of its inception in 1948 to nearly 20 lakh cadets today, with girls constituting approximately 40 percent of the total strength.

The Director General underscored the vital role played by NCC in inculcating discipline, leadership, character, and a spirit of nation-building among youth through structured training and camps. During 2025, NCC organised:

  • 1,665 Annual Training Camps

  • 33 Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Camps to promote national integration and cultural bonding

In addition to routine adventure activities, NCC undertook several major initiatives, including:

  1. Special Mountaineering Expedition to Mount Everest

  2. Participation of nearly 75,000 cadets during Operation Sindoor, assisting civil administration and providing medical support, including voluntary blood donation

  3. Border area outreach under the Vibrant Villages Programme

  4. Plantation of eight lakh saplings under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign

  5. Participation of over four lakh cadets in the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue Quiz

  6. More than eight lakh cadets participating in Swachhotsav

  9. Training of 3,000 cadets under Skill Manthan workshops

  10. 340 cadets working on five start-up ideas under the Idea and Innovation Competition

Speaking on ongoing national-level expeditions, Lt Gen Vats stated that a Special Sailing Expedition is currently underway around 21 uninhabited islands of Andaman and Nicobar, dedicated to the Param Vir Chakra awardees. Additionally, two cycling expeditions are being conducted to commemorate national milestones, promote social reform, and honour the legacy of Veer Birsa Munda and Peshwa Bajirao.

He further informed that approximately 94,400 NCC cadets from 315 districts have been nominated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to undergo disaster management training in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme by March 2026.

The Republic Day Camp will be visited by several eminent dignitaries, including the Vice President of India, Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, Chief Minister of Delhi, Defence Secretary, Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The month-long activities of the camp will culminate with the Prime Minister’s Rally on 28 January 2026.
