As earlier assam congress govt ignored the tribal or non-tribal land occupied issue by illegal persons. Now the bjp govt has launched eviction on land and foreigners, identifying illegal persons whether indian or foreigners in entire north-east india, following central and supreme court orders time to time issued since 2014 and 2019 through citizenship amendment act (caa) and updated rules issued on citizen amendment bill in 2024 and 2025.

Though karbi anglong autonomous council (kaac) issued an eviction notice to about 10,000 individual persons illegally residing on reserved grazing lands in karbi anglong and west karbi anglong during the protest by karbi community against illegal encroachment by hindi speaking people in the village grazing reserve (vgr) and professional reserve (pgr), totaling several lakh acres of land in february 2024.

But hindi speaking parallel community in assam submitted a memorandum to president droupadi murmu referring legal recognition for settlement in karbi anglong in february 2024. But then no decision was accepted regarding either settlement or eviction. But again in december 2025, the karbi community protested for the same issue.
